I wholeheartedly recommend Rob Moses and Blue Ridge Building and Home Safety Solutions (434-202-4054, brhomesafety.com) who we hired to renovate our two decks and front porch. His work is spectacular. From the planning and estimates, to the construction itself, every detail was meticulous, and timely. Our old wooden decks were peeling and splintered. He replaced them with TimberTech, which will never require painting, looks fabulous, and is extremely strong and sturdy. We contracted with Rob Moses (Blue Ridge Building and Home Safety Solutions, 434-202-4054) to install handrails for our front porch. He helped us select a style that blends perfectly with our existing entryway. He also installed handrails for our steps leading down into the garage and grip bars for our large shower, which blend in perfectly with the existing shower hardware. As an additional security measure, he installed a Ring door camera at our front entrance and a camera in our back areas. We were pleased with all the safety measures installed "just in case," although we did not expect to need them. "Just in case" came quickly, however. I hired Darrel Fortune, (Fortune Electric, 540-241-3398) to install a 240-volt outdoor outlet on the side of my house so I can plug in my portable Level 2 vehicle charger. Running the electric line from the panel in my basement to a suitable location outside was a challenge, but Darrel came up with a great plan and executed it perfectly. We've moved many times–across town, across the state, and the country. Without a doubt, in all of those experiences, Premier Moving of Staunton (540-480-0602) was the best service we've ever had. Their team was prompt, professional, and polite. The team on moving day operated with speed, care and precision. Our refrigerator's French doors stopped closing properly without a nudge, and the gaskets around them had started fraying, so I called the guy recommended in a recent WBB–Jason Lester (434-566-9800). He came out in a couple of days. He first expertly got the frig doors right and then went shopping online for the new refrigerator gaskets using his phone. He found a source with a good price on the new parts. A few days later, he installed the new gaskets when it was convenient for us. The price for the labor was reasonable; he was pleasant to work with, and he left the kitchen as tidy as he found it. For the past two seasons, Daryl Morse and his crew have cleaned my yard and two dry creek beds of leaves and branches that have accumulated over the winter. Daryl is very pleasant to work with, and in 2 1/2 hours, his crew had my yard looking great again. Unlike other crews I have had, Daryl actually brings a dump trailer and removes the dead leaves and, branches and sticks. His crew also used a weed-eater to trim around my walkways and ground-level porches. This is now Daryl's full-time job, so he is available during the week as well as on weekends. We finally got around to replacing our 20-year-old tankless LP gas water heater. They are complex devices (gas, water, electrical, venting), so we carefully shopped around for an experienced plumber. We turned to Matt Morris, the only plumber at Albermarle Heating & Air (434-293-4556), who was here all day with an assistant to install a new Rinnia unit. Last week I had a good experience with Albemarle Heating and Air (434-293-4556), a large operation serving several localities around us. They are not cheap, but I was impressed with the professionalism and craftsmanship of the plumber and his trainee. They replaced a worn-out (noisy) pressure-reducing valve and primary shut-off under the house, fixed a difficult leak on the pipes coming from the water heater and, (since they were here) put in a new basket on the sink in the wet bar. (I felt lazy having them to do it, but it turned out to be not an easy task even for the pros.) They do “give you the opportunity” to have a service contract, but the discounts only make sense (and then, only maybe) if you have them always do both plumbing and HVAC.
