These included a kitchen faucet, a bathroom faucet, and a leaking commode. Within one day of calling, my appointment was scheduled. Mariah and “Junior” arrived promptly and determined my needs. Peace of Mind responded in 3.5 hours to a plumbing call for help on a leaking pipe under a bathroom sink, which was dripping water in the room below. Both feed lines were quickly replaced. Additionally, I had them inspect a slow leak under a toilet base. I had been able to stop it by tightening down bolts very slightly; they found that the toilet bowl wax gasket was leaking, and it was replaced. We found Peace of Mind Property Services (434-361-1804) to be a good source of expertise for household repairs, even the odd balls. (It is nice they have an office manager to help coordinate their services.) For example, we needed to install a new frame for the sliding glass doors in our shower off the master bedroom. After checking with Peace of Mind to ensure they could handle the task, we ordered a frame kit and carefully checked the width of our glass doors that would be used in the new frame. The two pro installers had to cut the aluminum frame to fit, carefully caulk it, and so on; this was not a job for a handyman. To get caulking tight, they came back the next day. They read the directions that came with the new frame and didn't miss a step. For all the time it took, the bill was reasonable. The two techs were pleasant, neat, and professional. The new glass doors slide better than ever. Their services include plumbing and water heater repairs and replacements, electrical services, HVAC tune-ups and replacements, appliance repairs and replacements, carpentry, drywall repairs, and small painting projects. I just had an outstanding experience with a plumber recommended in the WBB directory. We had a leaking pipe under the kitchen sink. The main water had to be shut off. I would like to recommend the best local small engine repair technician. Jordan Hemp, 434-235-8412, who is, by far, the best repairman I have found. He is local, just off Rt. 6, a few miles from Rt. 151. He can diagnose the issues and provide a quick resolution. He fixes them on-site as obvious by his yard and garage. He repairs anything with an engine–leaf blowers, weed wackers, chain saws, tractors, lawn mowers, etc. He is meticulous and a pleasure to discuss the issues and resolution at a very reasonable cost. Our washing machine was no longer spinning at top speed and we were left with soggy clothes requiring additional spin cycles. This quickly became an inefficient process. Our refrigerator's French doors stopped closing properly without a nudge, and the gaskets around them had started fraying, so I called the guy recommended in a recent WBB–Jason Lester (434-566-9800). He came out in a couple of days. He first expertly got the frig doors right and then went shopping online for the new refrigerator gaskets using his phone. He found a source with a good price on the new parts. A few days later, he installed the new gaskets when it was convenient for us. The price for the labor was reasonable; he was pleasant to work with, and he left the kitchen as tidy as he found it. I asked for dryer vent cleaning recommendations in a recent issue of the WBB and was directed by another Wintergreen homeowner to DuctMedic of Charlottesville (434-985-3828). Online scheduling was fast and easy; technicians showed up promptly. They advised me that they provide service for the resort and its condos. The charge was $219 for my stacked washer/dryer unit interior and exterior vent cleaning, and I was told that service every 2-3 years is fine for the 26 or so loads of laundry we do here per year. It was a pleasure to work with experts at Kraft Appliances (434-923-8988) in Charlottesville to select and install a new dishwasher, dual-fuel range, and ceiling exhaust fan for our kitchen in Stoney Creek. They came to our home to ensure the appliances we selected could be installed without problems. Based on their onsite assessment, we revised the order for the ceiling fan to ensure adequate airflow. The installation team was great. The selection of appliances in their showroom includes WOLF, Bosch, and KitchenAid, among other brands. We were pleasantly surprised by how quickly they could install what we ordered. We highly recommend. We called a local appliance repair firm we had used in the past to have our refrigerator fixed, but they told us their tech who did that kind of work had quit. They suggested we call A&E Factory Service (1-800-905-9505), a national firm based in Illinois that has technicians in this area. The A&E tech did a very good job and we'll use them again. Albert told us he often comes to Wintergreen. There are a lot of steps on the phone and online you have to follow with A&E. We had to agree to pay $114 for someone to come out even if we didn't like their analysis of the issue or their projected cost of the repair, which in our case was not cheap but not outrageous.
