I would like to recommend Virginia Exteriors for windows replacement. We just had ours installed in our Laurelwood Condo on Wintergreen Mtn. Our condo is finally warm–no more drafts coming in nor do we hear the wind howling. The windows are just beautiful and clear especially looking out at the sunset. The Laurelwood Condo Association approved the company and the Sunrise product they use. The association sent an inspector to inspect our windows after they were installed. He commented that was one of the best window installations he has seen. The owner of Virginia Exteriors, Eddie Hane, is a Class A contractor and has been in the window and siding business for over 30 years. He has employees (installers) who have been with him for a long time, some as long as 17 years. The company installed our windows in our main residence and we were very happy with their workmanship and the product. They are professional and diligent with their work. Eddie is honest, not pushy, and very pleasant to talk to and work with. He is very involved with the installations. His price was very reasonable and helped us prioritize our budget. We could not be happier and appreciated them coming all the way to Wintergreen to do the work for us and our neighbors. After the extensive wood landscape timbers on our back deck rotted very prematurely, we went searching for a company that could replace them with a high-quality product that would last forever. Through Wintergreen Bulletin Board, we found an enthusiastic recommendation for Windridge. Jeff Howe, the owner, came to our house multiple times and designed a very effective replacement for the landscape timbers. His crew then worked tirelessly and continuously. (Never was it said, "we have another project to catch up on, so we’ll see you in a week or so.") They completed the job perfectly. The crew's work was monitored closely to make sure it met Windridge’s high standards. The front office people at Windridge were also very efficient and responsive. Jeff Howe's Windridge Landscaping & Hardscaping Company in Afton (434-361-1588) did a fabulous job removing our lower failing deck. Using all the huge boulders (some 5,000 pounds) in our backyard and other stone materials, they created a raised rock patio with cascading flower, herb, and rock gardens to blend naturally into the forest. We recently had a new roof installed on our house, and as a result, would like to highly recommend Roof Top Services in Charlottesville. Everything about the process was seamless with this company which began with a meeting with the project manager who explained the entire process and gave us a printed timeline of the roof replacement process. On replacement day each crew member (there were over 15 of them) had his own personal task to complete. The site manager was present all day and made sure that all safety procedures were followed. I would like to recommend KR Construction (krconstruction02@yahoo.com) for custom carpentry. We used this Faber, Va.-based business in the fall of 2019. They created kitchen cabinets from scratch to fit under our granite countertop. In addition, they created matching doors and drawer fronts for the rest of our cabinets. I would like to recommend Russ Anderson for woodwork of all types. His specialty is custom cabinetry, but if any project involves woodworking, give him a call. We had an outdoor tabletop that was falling apart; he created a lovely new one of marine grade wood. We needed some kitchen cabinets built to exactly match existing cabinets; he did a fabulous job. He knows everything about kitchen cabinetry and made recommendations for improvements that we didn't even know existed. Our next project with him will be building a nicer fireplace surround and mantle. He is enjoyable to work with and his prices are reasonable. We crawled through the attic trying to find the source of a roof leak in our kitchen ceiling with no success. Friends and WBB subscribers recommended Cenvar Roofing and Solar (434-329-7561). They identified the leak, patched it, and removed the damp insulation. Would definitely use them again. Submitted by Flo Quick. October 2025

Cenvar Roofing of Charlottesville came out and replaced two older vent flashings that appeared to have a small leak. Service was quick and the price was reasonable. Cenvar Roofing out of Lynchburg (434-841-8898) did a great job for us. We had called three other roofers to give us estimates and none showed up. We called and they were here the next day. The estimate was good and they used great materials. They got us on the schedule and showed up when they said they would. Worked from 8-8 and we now have a beautiful new roof. I'd like to recommend Ben Hufsmith for any cabinetry or finish carpentry needs.  He's an independent contractor with a great deal of experience, having worked with several custom cabinet providers. He can do anything from a complete kitchen cabinet replacement to things as simple as installing sliders for easier access to contents.  I've personally used Ben to rebuild a custom full-wall bookcase and to install an attic lift (similar to a dumbwaiter for an attic). We recommend Perry G's Custom painting (434-361-1228). Perry was prompt in returning our call, worked with WPOA's Architectural Review Board to get the paint color approved, and his team arrived on time each day and completed the work in a week. They power-washed the house exterior and deck, repaired rotted framing on the decorative fence, and painted the exterior house and trim. The finish is a well-done hand-brushed and rolled paint job.
