During our recent ice storm and freeze, I contacted three companies to plow the snow and ice from my driveway. Only Matt Miner of Taylor Tree Service (434-531-4734) was able to do the job. He brought a tracked front-loader that moved the ice out of the way. His price was reasonable for the amount of work involved. Submitted by Robert Peirce. February 2026

We had a great experience with Taylor Tree Service (Matt Minor; 434-531-4734). We had about $4,000 worth of large and medium size trees removed (a total of 11) in September 2022 by Matt and his staff. They had a crew at our home for two consecutive days and after each day they cleaned the area thoroughly. A nice touch. Their work was timely, completed in a quick time frame after we agreed on a price, and well executed. I will be using them again and I am highly recommending them to others. We used Drew Bell to finish clearing our lot in Stoney Creek. He was responsive, reasonably priced, and saved us after a big mess was left by the last guy. Martin, Tripp, Phil, and the whole team at Charlottesville Tree Service (434-939-2025) are true professionals. We had a complex job that involved taking down eight trees and asked for minimal disturbance to the surrounding trees and no nicking of the nearby house. This called for some delicate work! After the extensive wood landscape timbers on our back deck rotted very prematurely, we went searching for a company that could replace them with a high-quality product that would last forever. Through Wintergreen Bulletin Board, we found an enthusiastic recommendation for Windridge. Jeff Howe, the owner, came to our house multiple times and designed a very effective replacement for the landscape timbers. His crew then worked tirelessly and continuously. (Never was it said, "we have another project to catch up on, so we’ll see you in a week or so.") They completed the job perfectly. The crew's work was monitored closely to make sure it met Windridge’s high standards. The front office people at Windridge were also very efficient and responsive. Using all the huge boulders (some 5,000 pounds) in our backyard and other stone materials, they created a raised rock patio with cascading flower, herb, and rock gardens to blend naturally into the forest. We just had a very tall ash tree taken down by Matt Miner and his crew. The tree was infested with the emerald ash borer and was positioned to fall on our roof during one of the spring storms. It was over 100 feet tall and probably 3 feet across at the base. Matt got the job done in spite of high winds. The job came in on estimate and the site was cleared completely. We had a good experience with Big O Tree Service https://www.bigotree.com/ (540-337-4588) in 2019. We had a huge tree near our house in Stoney Creek. We got several bids and they won. Big O has the heavy equipment (bucket truck) to handle the monster trees and their three-man crew were very professional with an obvious safety-first approach.
