We highly recommend the work of Rob Moses, Blue Ridge Building and Home Security (434-202-4054). He installed Ring cameras for front and back security of our home, grab bars in our shower, and front porch railing for our one-foot step-up front porch. We didn't urgently need any of these improvements, but we are relieved that they are in place as we age in place. Rob is the true definition of "professional" in every way.  Submitted by Janie Friedlein. We are very pleased with the service and installation of our new screen doors. Rob from Blue Ridge Home Safety (info@brhomesafety.com, 434-202-4320) recommended security screen doors from Lowe’s to take advantage of the natural cross breeze we enjoy on mild days. The first screen door was installed quickly but we had some rotten wood surrounding the door jam on the back porch. Rob expertly repaired the troubled areas, explaining what he was doing each step of the way. He sealed the new trim, caulked it, and painted it before installing the screen door. We recently contacted Blue Ridge Home Safety for a home assessment to recommend improvements designed for aging in place. They responded quickly with a detailed assessment, followed by estimates for any of the improvements that we decided we wanted to have done. Work commenced quickly on installing handrails, bathroom grab bars, and a new security system, among other items. Rob and Sara Moses have been an absolute delight to work with. Every aspect of their operation, from communication to scheduling and showing up on time, to quality workmanship, to billing, and an easy payment system, has been impeccable. We would like to recommend Blue Ridge Home Safety (434–202–4054) for home improvement projects. Rob Moses has renovated our decks. All floorboards were replaced along with railings on our deck and our front porch was completely replaced as well as the stairs up to the screened-in porch. We recently had Blue Ridge Home Safety of Nellysford (434-202-4054, brhomesafety.com) perform an assessment of our home which included a detailed inspection of both the inside and outside. Shortly thereafter we met with them again and went over a detailed report of suggested modifications to improve our home’s safety and security. Many of the modifications and installations can be performed by BRHS. They can also provide the names of reputable handyman services who can. They are certified Senior Home Safety Specialists and certified home safety advisors for aging in place. In response to the request for recommendations for gas fireplace maintenance, I have used Chambers Contracting in Fisherville (540-307 1217). James Chambers responded to my request within two days instead of some of the businesses in the Yellow Pages who took weeks or more to respond. He has a fixed price for a visit and was very efficient and professional. I was happy with his response and his work; he left my fireplace in good working order and cleaned up the workspace. Donna Crabtree is easy to work with and takes the time to understand what type of design you are interested in. Donna's turnaround time is very reasonable as are her prices for her expert work. I have had hats, aprons, and towels all embroidered by Donna, and the final product was always flawless. Some examples of her work can be seen in the Wintergreen Resort gift shop on the mountain. Custom Ornamental Iron - 540-942-2687

We highly recommend the father-son team (Randy Teter and Steven Teter) of Custom Ornamental Iron in Waynesboro for custom-made indoor and outdoor handrails and any ornamental ironwork. They are skilled craftsmen who have worked together for 20 years, creating amazing works of art. All of their work is customized and specifically fitted to your needs. After consulting with us and making some wise suggestions, last week they installed four different handrails they crafted for us, leading up steps and around our front porch. The workmanship is beautiful. They stayed true to their initial estimate and completed the work in a timely manner.  They do not have a website; all of their marketing comes from word-of-mouth. We initially learned about them through the Wintergreen Bulletin Board's subscribers' recommendations. We could not be happier with what they created for us. I would like to recommend Randy Teter and his son Steven for custom ornamental ironwork. They designed and built wrought iron hand railings for the front of our house. They also do all sorts of inside work as well as architectural designs- railings, balustrades, fencing, gates, etc. Really nice people to work with. We tried Peace of Mind Property Services' plumber Muriah Kurpel (434-361-2804) to install a new kitchen faucet with a soap dispenser. I called on a Monday and got a call back immediately, and once it was determined that it was not an emergency, an appointment was set up for Thursday. Kurper and her assistant arrived on time, moved quickly with good humor, and did a good job working in an awkward space, even filling up the new soap dispenser before leaving. The bill came a few days later and was very reasonable. (I also had an awkward and heavy piece of gear I needed help with to move from the garage to upstairs. I finally located the business at 179 Main Street in Lovingston near the Courthouse with operating hours M-W 11- 4, Thu/F 3-6 (by appointment only). I found the owner, Janelle Marie Harrop, eager to please, very professional, and offering reasonable pricing. Two thumbs up for Janny Bird Sewing Company on Main Street in Lovingston. She does a lot of costume and bridal work and has a great reputation for that among the locals. When we needed some zippers replaced in several cardigans, and two sets of window curtains resized after remounting, she didn't "look down" on our smaller jobs. I learned about Janelle Harrop's sewing talents from the WBB. A year ago I used her talents to have a pile of everyday clothing altered and was blown away by her expertise. She has done freelance sewing while working other jobs until just a few months ago when she put her Jannybird Sewing Co. (434-249-0914. JannyBirdSewingCo.com) into a storefront in Lovingston at 179 Main St. (below the Blue Star Music). She was the runner-up finalist in a small business grant competition, she won a grant to start her business after one of the four top finalists dropped out. I recommend Janelle Harrop as an excellent seamstress. I had seven sets of 9-foot drapes that I wanted to have repurposed for my two-bedroom Stone Ridge Woods Condo. Not only did Janelle measure and remake my drapery perfectly, but she helped me with rods, hooks, finials, weights, dimensions, and selections. I was able to have all the hardware sent to her, and she separated and labeled all for installation. She hung the drapes and sent me pictures of the finished rooms. Thanks to subscribers' recommendations to WBB, we recently turned to Lawrence Moving for the move into our home in Stone Orchard. We would echo the comments we heard from others. Moving from the Wintergreen Mountain to Stoney Creek went well in large part to the great job the crew Lawrence Moving sent us. They are a major United Van Lines enterprise based in nearby Lyndhurst but they handle local short and small jobs as well. We had several antiques with ancient glass and some very large and heavy furniture pieces as well. And there was a lot of boxes of books.
