After tolerating the poor exterior paint job on the Wintergreen house I purchased in 2017, I finally broke down and had the house repainted in August 2023. Based on reviews I’d read on WBB, I contacted Lucio Valencia-Flores of DLP Company.  Lucio came to look at the house and provided a bid promptly. He also took photos of trim whose condition was deteriorating, so that I was able to specify what areas I wanted replaced. In addition to obtaining the paint in the color I had selected (after approval by the WPOA Architectural Board, of course!), Lucio arranged to have the rotting trim replaced. We were very pleased with DLP Company’s work – so much so that I recommended Lucio to fellow Wintergreen part-timers, who were equally pleased with the work he did on the interior of their house. We recently used Lucio Valencia (434-327-0094; DLP Painting Company) to paint our home in Stoney Creek and can give them high praise. The team arrived on time and was extraordinarily diligent, courteous, and professional. During the cost estimate process, we asked Lucio if he thought the trim needed to be painted. Though he could have made some extra money, he gave us an honest opinion and said, “No.” They power-washed the house and our storage shed and retrieved a paint sample from the chimney for color matching to paint our home. Ted Campbell (Commonwealth Property Solutions, 540-476-1946, teddycampbell@hotmail.com) is who I called to haul away some furniture. He was courteous and responded promptly to my request, working out the details to have two sets of bunk beds removed.  He disassembled and took both sets of bunk beds from my condo on the mountain to a donation center in Fishersville. He was very careful; no walls got banged up when he was carrying parts out and kept all the pieces and parts, nuts and bolts organized. I plan to call on his services again. It is my understanding Teddy also does junk clean-outs including appliance removal, post-construction clean-ups, debris and brush removal from yards, and can bring in mulch and gravel. He assembled a huge bunk bed by himself as well as other pieces of furniture (nightstands, dressers, etc.). We later replaced the tile in the bathroom which left behind quite a bit of heavy debris. I'd like to put in a recommendation for Dodson Glass & Mirror, based out of Charlottesville. We were looking to replace a window and a patio door. In the case of many other companies either left messages were never answered or were strung along, and then ignored. Dodson Glass came out almost immediately, clearly understood the extra precautions needed to work on a mountain home (and they have a history working on homes in Wintergreen). They did a fantastic job. Very responsive, did a great job exactly when they said they would, and went the extra mile. Billy VandeVisser (540-292-4224) is a knowledgeable and skilled carpenter who built two sheds and two decks for us. One of the decks was very complicated with varying levels, odd angles, and several staircases. It was serious carpentry. We are engineers and designed the deck. Often, contractors do not like working with engineers because they can be particular. However, Billy worked patiently with us when questions and challenges came up, offering suggestions to resolve issues that we had not considered. Can't find a better handyman here or anywhere than Valentine Residential Services. Silas Valentine is punctual, positive and quick to resolve issues. Didn't waste time just did the work like he owned it. From gutters and toilet repairs to attic search for critters; very reasonable and personable. If only he could be cloned. It was a small but impossible job–painting the stained eves around our two-story Williamsburg-style home in Stoney Creek. Silas Valentine Residential Services (540-849-9562) got it done in a few hours, arrived on time, and it looked great. Several WBB subscribers had offered up what looked like too-good-to-be-true reviews, but the reality appear to be this guy is the handyman I've been seeking. Taylor Smith (540-885-2251) at Braden and Van Fossen Iron Works in Staunton manufactured a custom iron plate to be used as a heat reflector for the fireplace. The plate was recommended by Doug Parrish (540-885-3244) of Augusta Chimney Sweep. The plate was installed by handyman Silas Valentine, (540-849-9562). This summer we looked at several recent installations of stonework patios around Wintergreen before turning to Creation Appreciation (540-456-6196) to put in a bluestone patio in our front yard. It was the right decision. The attention to detail was excellent, but more impressive was how when the plan went a bit sideways the management and crew handled the problems with ease. We can highly recommend Creation Appreciation (540-456-6196) who worked with us on a hardscape design that included an apron at the front of our stone driveway, a stone walkway along the front of our house, and the repair and improvement of paver steps and walkway on the side and in the back of our house. The project took over 3 weeks. The crew who performed the work was extremely skilled and meticulous in the placement of every single stone and paver. At the end of each day, they stored their tools and equipment and made sure all trash and debris were removed. Chris Kell worked closely with his team and checked in with us almost daily. It was almost magical how the crew from Creation Appreciation (540-456-6196) convinced the tree that the heavy snow brought slowly down on our house to fly up and away with zero additional damage to the rhododendron under it, not to mention our house. It's wasn't magic, but instead skillful roping and tactical cutting on our steep roof to remove the weight of the tree's limbs so that leverage shifted, allowing the roped tree to lift itself up and swing harmlessly away from the house into the yard. It was hilarious. The crew then ran the entire tree and all of our downed limbs into their huge shredder and cleaned up the area with leafblowers. The bill for this expertise was very reasonable. I highly recommend Jeremy Parker and Creation Appreciation for all kinds of landscape work. We have worked with Jeremy for over 10 years and couldn’t be more pleased, He helps us with grass seeding and maintenance, all but the most ginormous of our tree work, big planting jobs, and big mulching jobs. His crew has moved several very large shrubs halfway across the yard and they relocated happily. They have built stone steps and stone walls and have solved drainage problems. Our neighbors highly recommended Little Man Landscaping (Ja1264200@gmail.com; 434-509-7618) and now I know why. We hired them to deliver and spread mulch throughout our mountain landscaping. To our delight, they pulled weeds before laying down the mulch, edged the beds so the groundcover looked tidy, and carefully spread the mulch between plants. They blew off the driveway on their way out. We were incredibly impressed with their attention to detail, hard work, and reasonable pricing. I called them based on other recommendations for them on the WTG Bulletin website. I have to say that from the on-time arrival at 8:30 am to the organized and industrious work getting rid of a large quantity of leaves buried among thick groundcover, and the distribution of mulch exactly as I specified was done perfectly by Manual Lopez and his professional team. We emailed Manuel Lopez last week about cleaning out our gutters and he responded within hours. He came out at the appointed time and gave us a very good estimate and showed up the next week as he said he would. If you're looking for someone to install a whole-house generator, we can recommend Never Dark Whole House Generators (434-975-3275) out of Charlottesville. We placed the order in mid-July and they finished the installation of a Briggs & Stratton last week. This was an upgrade from our rusting 2004 Generac, requiring the placement of new lines and coordination with CVEC and Nelson County.
